This blue commemorative plaque records: Robert Edgar Hope-Simpson OBE. MRCS, LRCP. FRCGP. HonFFPHM 1908-2003 At his General Practice here he set up his pioneering Epidemiological Research Unit establishing the link between chickenpox and shingles and contribution to the public understanding of the spread of influenza. Dr Robert Edgar Hope-Simpson was a general practitioner and epidemiologist who established the Epidemiological Research Unit in Cirencester, where he made significant contributions to medical science by proving the relationship between chickenpox and shingles and advancing understanding of influenza transmission.
