Robert Burns black plaque

This black commemorative plaque records: The Stirling Arms Hotel A marriage lintel inside the Stirling Arms Hotel shows that there has probably been an inn on this site since the 17th century. The present building dates from 1770 and was visited by Robert Burns in 1787. Burns was appointed to the post of Excise man in Dunblane, but he died before taking up office.

Robert Burns, a preeminent poet of the Scottish Enlightenment, is remembered for his influential works in Scots language and his celebration of Scottish culture; his visit to the Stirling Arms Hotel in 1787 marks a connection between this site and one of Scotland's most celebrated literary figures.
