Richard Trevithick, a pioneering British engineer known for developing high-pressure steam engines and building the first working steam locomotive, died in Dartford in 1833 and was buried in an unmarked grave near this site. His contributions to steam technology were foundational to the Industrial Revolution and modern railway transport.
