This blue commemorative plaque records: Parish School 1842 Grade II Listed Building. National school erected for St Leonard's Church by Reverend Richard Durnford (later Bishop of Chichester). Extended 1892 by Reverend T. E. Cleworth, last used as a school in 1979. Recorded plaque organisation: Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.
Reverend Richard Durnford, later Bishop of Chichester, and Reverend T. E. Cleworth were significant figures in the establishment and expansion of St Leonard's Parish School, contributing to education in their community through the construction and extension of a national school building listed for its architectural and historical importance.
