This blue commemorative plaque records: Owned by Richard Churcher, founder of Churcher's College, in the 1690s and, in 1802, by John Small, maker of cricket balls and one of the best batsmen in England. It was the Commercial Hotel in the middle of the 20th century. Recorded plaque organisation: Petersfield Heritage.
Richard Churcher founded Churcher's College, a significant educational institution, in the late 17th century. John Small, notable for his skill as a batsman and for manufacturing cricket balls, contributed to the early development of cricket in England.
