Newtownards in County Down gave birth to Rhys McClenaghan on 21 July 1999, launching the smallest nation's biggest gymnastic triumph. He turned a narrow pommel horse into an Olympic, world, European and Commonwealth stage, breaking every Irish barrier in the process. The town no longer asks whether it can produce global champions; it watches its native son prove they exist.
