Rhos Abbey, dedicated to St Trillo, was founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks from Strata Marcella Abbey; it was significant as a religious and monastic center in medieval North Wales. The site was later repurposed, with St Trillo's Apartments built on the promenade in the early 20th century.
