Remembrance Day bombing

On 8 November 1987 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, a time bomb detonated beside the war memorial during a Remembrance Sunday ceremony, killing twelve people and wounding sixty-three. The Provisional IRA claimed it had mistaken civilians for British soldiers parading to the memorial, but the tragedy exposed a brutal failure of judgement that shook the organisation and weakened public support for its cause. What began as a political attack became a moral wound, forcing communities on both sides to confront how easily hatred could consume the very people it pretended to protect.
