Remains of the causeway to the south of Westenhanger Castle

Scheduled monument

What is recorded here

Perhaps the causeway is gone because the sea took it back, or perhaps men simply stopped needing it and the marsh claimed what it could. Either way, the absence is not empty. It is a shape remembered by the land, a road that refused to be forgotten even after it stopped being a road.
The National Heritage List for England records Remains of the causeway to the south of Westenhanger Castle as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
