What is recorded here

On a ridge to ESE of Galway town (GA094-100----) on or close to Forthill Graveyard. Augustinian friary founded 1508-9 by Margaret Athy. Known as 'the monastery of Cnoc'. Neither the scale or layout of the buildings is clear but representations appear on several 16-17th-C maps of the town. Described as 'late dissolved' in 1578. In 1601-3 a bastioned fort (GA094-099002-) was erected on the site.
