Redcastle stands roofless on a steep Black Isle promontory, preserving fragments of the fortress William the Lion erected at Ederdour before MacKenzies held it until 1790. Its walls still trap shadows from the 1659 burning when Rory MacKenzie joined Montrose, while a stone marked R.M. 1641 waits for the story of the hand that cut it.
