Red Lion Hotel, Radlett red plaque

This red commemorative plaque records: The Red Lion Hotel. For the whole of the 19th Century, the old Red Lion pub on this site was run by two families- the Clarks and the Wings. In 1905, the pub was re-built as a hotel, by the Hertfordshire Public House Trust. In 1915, this became part of the Home Counties Trust- the genesis of the National Hotel chain of Trust House Forte. The Red Lion Hotel in Radlett marks an important transition in British hospitality history from traditional pubs to larger hotel chains, as it was rebuilt and managed by early 20th-century trust companies that later formed part of the National Hotel chain of Trust House Forte.
