Red Castle is a ruined red sandstone fortification overlooking Lunan Bay in Angus, built for William the Lion in the late twelfth century. James Gray besieged it for two years in 1579 after being rejected by Elizabeth Beaton, burning the inhabitants out before royal forces intervened. The precipitous remains include a fifteenth-century tower and thick curtain wall, perched on the hill edge and visible from the A92 road.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Red Castle as Cairn (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
