This blue commemorative plaque records: Dringhouses School c.1850-1904 Village Reading Room 1904-1942 Wilkinson Memorial Library 1942-present. Given after the death of Colonel Wilkinson, last Lord of Dringhouses Manor, to be used only as a public library or for Council-decreed public purpose, for the benefit of the inhabitants of York and Dringhouses. Recorded plaque organisation: York Civic Trust.
Dringhouses School operated from around 1850 to 1904, later transforming into a Village Reading Room until 1942, and since then has functioned as the Wilkinson Memorial Library, established through Colonel Wilkinson's bequest to serve the community of York and Dringhouses.
