This blue commemorative plaque records: Wyre Aqueduct John Rennie designed this single span aqueduct, built in 1797. It is 110 feet long and carries the Lancaster to Kendal canal 34 feet above the River Wyre.
John Rennie FRS FRSE was a prominent Scottish civil engineer known for his work on canals, bridges, and docks; the Wyre Aqueduct exemplifies his innovative contributions to civil engineering in the late 18th century.
