Chirk Castle stands in Wrexham, Wales, built in 1295 by Roger Mortimer de Chirk to guard the Ceiriog Valley for Edward I. It survived Civil War damage, Myddelton ownership, and two world wars before becoming a National Trust property in 1981. Its clipped yew hedges and terraced gardens still surround the stone halls where families lived, leased rooms to evacuees, and kept a deer park stretching into the distance.
