What is recorded here

Iron for the repair of the broken sail of the windmill is listed in an inventory of forfeited Templar property at Templetown in 1307 (Hore 1900-11, vol. 4, 277), and a tower windmill is depicted on a map of Waterford Harbour by Francis Jobson dated 1591 (Colfer 2004, 57, Fig. 46A; 106, Fig. 1). It must have been a significant landmark for seafarers but it is not marked on any later map. The exact location of this windmill is not known, but from Jobson’s map it would appear to have been on the high ground S of Templetown church (WX049-008001-). The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
