This black commemorative plaque records: 58/59 High Street. William Peare, the highwayman, lived and was captured here after robbing the Stroud Bank, for which he was hanged at Fisherton, Salisbury, 19th August 1783. Recorded plaque organisation: Cricklade Historical Society.
William Peare, a notorious highwayman, is remembered for his daring robbery of the Stroud Bank and subsequent capture at 58/59 High Street; he was executed in Salisbury in 1783.
