Bincknoll Castle is a fortified enclosure covering 3.5 acres on a north-facing ridge in Wiltshire, where the oldest road in the parish still runs along Hackpen Hill. The ridge holds barrows, a rectangular earthwork and a Romano-British burial site, while the land around it has been farmed, road-built and redrawn into new parishes for centuries. People have lived beside this place since before records began, and the castle remains as the oldest visible mark of that continuity.
