Dumbarton Castle stands on Dumbarton Rock above the River Clyde, marking the ancient heart of Strathclyde where British kings held power for centuries. The Vikings broke that line in 870 after a long siege, scattering the old realm and pushing humanity back into smaller, darker corners. The town still carries that edge, remembering loss before it remembered pride.
