Sully Castle

Castle

What is recorded here

Reginald de Sully received the manor and castle around 1093 from Robert Fitzhamon, building a small earth-and-wood stronghold on land already marked by Roman life. The castle faded during the 14th century, and by the 18th century whatever remained had been absorbed into an ordinary house. No standing walls mark the site now, but the church foundations still date from that Norman gift, keeping the castle’s beginning alive beneath a much quieter village.
The National Monuments Record of Wales records Sully Castle as Castle from the Medieval period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Sully Castle was built in the late 13th century by the de Sully family, a prominent Welsh noble family. It is important as a well-preserved example of a medieval Welsh coastal castle and is recognized for its historical and architectural significance.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
