URBAN EXCAVATION

URBAN EXCAVATION, POST-MEDIEVAL SETTLEMENT SITE on GORDON ST.

What is recorded here

Gordon Street holds a post-medieval settlement buried beneath modern feet. The earth has kept seventeen, eighteen and nineteen century life intact since people stopped walking above it. Boot soles, pot shards and wood ashes wait for a shovel that has not arrived. The street owns memory but refuses to show it.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as URBAN EXCAVATION - POST-MEDIEVAL SETTLEMENT SITE on GORDON ST.. Recorded period: C17TH; C18TH; C19TH; POST-MED. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
