Ogham stone (present location) in Unknown Townland

This is the present location of the ogham stone from Bunkilla, Co. Cork (see CO061-074----). This long, narrow stone (2.2m; 0.3m x 0.15m) was discovered in 1982 during drainage works. Lankford (1993, 6-7) read the inscription as ANM MAQQI-LASIR K[O]I MA(Q)QI BIR(R)AC(I)AS or ANM MAQQI-LASIRE(O)N MAQQI BIR(R)ACIAS. However, some of the letters read by him may be from an earlier inscription on the stone. ANM MAQQI-LASIRE MAQQI BIRRAC 'name/inscription of Mac-Laisre son of Berrach' is another possible interpretation. (Power 1997, no. 7955) This stone has been studied as part of the ‘Ogham in 3D’ project undertaken by the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
