One of two stones from Dunbell Big in County Kilkenny now stands in County Dublin. In the 1850s a farmer broke them up while clearing ringforts, but the pieces survived and carry the name Brian son of Duachra. What began as an obstacle to ploughing became a preserved voice from beside the field.

This is the present location of one of two stones from Dunbell Big, Co. Kilkenny (KK024-01003-; KK024-01004-). Macalister (1945, 34-5) records that in the 1850s a farmer was clearing a group of ringforts off his land at Dunbell. In the course of these operations two ogham stones were uncovered and broken up to get them out of the way. The pieces were recovered and are now in the National Museum of Ireland (DU018-402----; DU018-403----). This stone measured ‘6 feet 3 inches x 1 foot 1 inch x 0 foot 11 inches’ and was inscribed on one angle. The inscription was read Macalister as: BRIAN[I]TTAS M[A]QI DUCR[A]DDA.
