Under the Georgian deanery of St. Patrick's Cathedral, medieval kitchen vaults still hold their shape. One chamber wears a brick arch, the other a low stone barrel patched with brick, suggesting that bishops and cooks once lived above older heat. The building is not a new invention but a layered occupancy, with newer rooms set upon older fire and shadow.

The present deanery of St. Patrick's Cathedral is located on the site of it's medieval predecessor (Mason 1819, 14-15). This is a Georgian building with vaulted kitchens that may be earlier. The kitchen contains two chambers, the larger has a brick vault, the smaller has a low barrel vault of stone with brick infill (Bradley & King,1987, 1, 28, FMD map (1978) M13,Murtagh 1973,47; Somerville & Large 1996,121).
