The medieval parish church of St. Nicholas Without was located W of Patrick's Cathedral (FMD map 1978, F14). For much of the medieval period the parish church consisted of the N aisle and transept of St. Patricks Cathedral which was walled up for use as a separate church (Bradley & King 1987, 2, 126; Clarke 2002, 18).
