Stone circle in Unknown

Stone circle

Why this matters

A local standing stone or piece of rock art; wider significance not recorded.

What is recorded here

In a letter dated 15 August 1758, Richard Pococke recorded seeing 'a small circle of stones to the west side of the bay [Ballinskelligs Bay]' (Ó Maidín 1959, 38). The precise location of this possible stone circle is not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011
