Derryforn Bog kept a wooden chamber hidden beneath two and a half metres of wet earth, waiting until 1844 for someone to break its surface. Crossed stakes rose fifteen centimetres above the floor of that dark world, while another thirty centimetres bit into the ground below. The enclosure did not belong to the sky or the season; it belonged to patience.

Unlocated enclosure within Derryforn Bog described by Feehan as an enclosure discovered beneath Derryforn Bog two and a half miles south-east of Abbeyleix around 1844, the structure was made of crossed wooden stakes around 150cm high, with another 30 cm of their length buried in the ground beneath the bog, which is about 2.5m deep here (Feehan 1983, 319).
