What is recorded here
Nakara, recorded in 1574 in the possession of Ric Oge McOwge, has vanished from the land entirely. It may have been a small stronghold on a river bend, its stones scattered by time or taken for other builds. What remains is a name caught between records and silence, pointing to a life that no longer has a shape.
Nolan (1901, 112) records that the castle of 'Nakara', in the barony of Loughrea, was in the possession of 'Ric Oge McOwge' in 1574. Not located.
