Castle Ballyntroghane vanished from the ground but never stopped occupying the mind. Thomas ffitz Jhonick held it in 1574, yet no marker, gate or stone remains for anyone to touch. The castle exists only through the act of searching, which means imagination must build every chamber before logic can judge them.
Nolan (1901, 111) records that the castle of 'Ballyntroghane', in the barony of Leitrim, was in the possession of 'Thomas ffitz Jhonick' in 1574. Not located.
