Beallanenean, in County Galway, belonged to Redmund therle in 1574. The castle is no longer visible, but it may have stood as a small defensive house for a local family. If so, it would have watched the land, resisted invaders, and disappeared under grass or forgetting.
Nolan (1901, 111) records that the castle of 'Beallanenean', in the barony of Leitrim, was in the possession of 'Redmund therle' in 1574. Not located. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 5 December 2017
Redmund therle held the castle of Beallanenean in the barony of Leitrim in 1574. It is remembered through historical records as an example of early modern Irish castle tenure.
