Barowdy castle stood in Athenry when The Dolphinagh held it in 1574, but no exact marker preserves that claim. It escapes identification because memory, not survey, carries it. A castle may withdraw from human knowledge and continue occupying the landscape. Forgetting does not empty the place; it returns the place to its own duration.
Nolan (1901, 121) records that the castle of 'Barowdy', in the barony of Athenry, was in the possession of 'The Dolphinagh' in 1574. Not located.
