Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated was a fairy fort on the west slope of a Cork hillock, visible as a circular enclosure on the 1842 survey map before fence removal levelled it in the 1930s. Grass still grows differently along its hidden line, marking the shape of a place people stopped seeing but never forgot.
In pasture, on W slope of hillock. Shown as circular enclosure on 1st ed. OS 6-inch map (1842). Levelled, probably during removal of field fences c. 1930s. Slight differential growth pattern evident. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
