What is recorded here

The counterscarp is the outer ditch, the first wound thrown up against an invading host, and a rath is a fortress, so the name itself is a diagram of defence. In Tully that diagram may have been built in flesh and stone, a ring of exclusion where the ordinary world stopped and the ruled world began. To walk its ghost is to feel the old boundary still drawing itself around you, marking what belongs inside and what must keep its distance.
