O'Byrne (1856, 54) called it a beautiful Tumulus, set inside a field still named The Battle Field. That is a field where violence happened, and a mound is a shape that remembers the dead. Whether the mound marked a hero, a king or an ordinary person is no longer clear. The name preserves the collision; the earth preserves the shape.
