What is recorded here

This stone is currently incorporated into the interior E wall of St Peakaun's church (TS075-023001-). It is described by Okasha and Forsyth (2001, 242-3) as a small slab (H c. 0.21m; Wth c. 0.21m) and is 'a part of a slab of unknown form, broken on all four sides. On its visible face there is incised an outline equal-armed cross with expanded terminals'. It is listed as Toureen Peacaun 9 (ibid.). The stone was uncovered during the 1944 excavation (Duignan 1944, 227). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

This cross-slab likely dates to the early medieval period and may have originally served as a Christian memorial or waymark. Its incorporation into church fabric suggests later reuse within a religious context.
