An unsteady flame, a trembling hand, a knife that slipped or was thrown. Those are the instruments of the passion, carved in fossiliferous limestone, and they belong to a person no longer named. The tomb was broken, reused as a church pier, then pulled out again and set in the graveyard like a forgotten tool. Kilkenny has done that often: taken dead things apart, carried them through new walls, and waited for them to mean something again.

At St Mary's parish church (KK019-026115-) in Kilkenny, rebuilt into a pier of the main entrance into the church (Ó Drisceoil 2019, unpublished). A fragment of a chest tomb panel, composed of fossiliferous limestone, depicting instruments of the passion (ibid.). It is currently in storage in the NE corner of the S side of the graveyard.
