Tobermochulla is a holy well in County Clare, Ireland. The circular depression holds moss-covered stones and sits beside loose flagstones in rushy pasture. It appears on maps from 1840 to 1921, marking one of several local wells sharing the same name. People may have visited this small water hole for prayer or healing, trusting that the clear name and steady structure gave the request a chance to reach further than ordinary life allowed.
In poorly drained, level rushy pasture, c. 0.5m to S of a land drain (long-axis E-W). Depicted and named 'Tobermochulla' on the 1840 edition of the OS 6-inch map, the 25-inch OS map and the 1921 edition OS 6-inch map. One of a number of holy wells by that name in the county. Linked to Saint Mochulla, a 7th-century Irish monk and hermit associated with several early Christian sites in the region. The well was traditionally visited for healing and protection, with local folklore suggesting that water from Tobermochulla had curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin.
