Commemorative plaque 56152

Blue plaque

What is recorded here

This blue commemorative plaque records: Spencer Square. Having housed famous people, such as Vincent van Gogh, it is not surprising the houses here are Grade II listed. Before any houses were built here, this was the site for military drill practice during the Napoleonic Wars. Very little survives from this period. A Second World War tunnel entrance is located in the northern corner of the gardens. Recorded plaque organisation: Thanet Community Development Trust.
Spencer Square, formerly a site for military drill practice during the Napoleonic Wars, later became home to notable figures like Vincent van Gogh and now features Grade II listed houses, preserving its historical significance.

A plaque record does not grant entry to a building or private land. View it from a public place unless permission is clearly given.
