Sudeley Castle is a privately owned castle in the Cotswolds where Queen Catherine Parr is buried, giving it a royal claim no other private castle can match. Ralph Boteler began the building in 1443, King Richard III added its banqueting hall, and later the castle became a home, a war base and a ruined shadow before the Dent family restored it. Its gardens still hold the shape of that long life, while the church keeps the one fact that makes the place unusual: a queen of England rests beneath its floor.
