What is recorded here

This brushed metal commemorative plaque records: Romsey Working Men's Conservative Club. Members Only. These premises stand on the site of the Old Swan Inn one of the oldest licensed premises in the town. It is recorded that in the year 1642 two soldiers from Cromwell's Army were hanged from the wrought iron sign bracket on this wall. The bracket is a good example of Hampshire wrought iron work.
The Old Swan Inn, one of Romsey's oldest licensed premises, witnessed a grim event in 1642 when two soldiers from Cromwell's Army were executed there; its wrought iron sign bracket, dating back to this period, exemplifies Hampshire's ironwork craftsmanship.
