Standing stone

Why this matters

Likely dating to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have functioned as a territorial marker or ceremonial monument. Its prominent position overlooking Lough Currane suggests a possible astronomical or ritual significance.

What is recorded here

Located near the summit of a ridge that overlooks Lough Currane to SE, this tall standing stone, of regular elevation, stands 3.47m high. It is roughly rectangular in basal plan, measuring 1.48m x .5m; NE-SW. Substantial packing stones are visible around its base. The above description is derived from O'Sullivan, A. and Sheehan, J.
