This bronze commemorative plaque records: THE ASHTON MARKET TRADER 'Uncle John' the Pieman John Harrison was well-known throughout Ashton for his generosity to the poor during hard times in the late 1800's. Unveiled 23rd September 2005 by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Jacqueline Lane.
John Harrison, known affectionately as 'Uncle John' the Pieman, was a beloved Ashton market trader celebrated for his charitable acts towards the less fortunate in the late 19th century.
