What is recorded here
Semi-detached two-bay two-storey house over basement and with dormer attic, built c.1840, with lean-to single-bay addition to west elevation, double-height canted bay window and oriel window to south elevation. Pitched slate roof with overhanging eaves, timber eaves brackets, rendered chimneystacks and uPVC rainwater goods. Rendered walls with slate-hanging to side west addition. Camber-headed window openings with one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows and painted sills. Paired and single one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to canted bay and triple one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to oriel window. Two-over-two and one-over-one with stained glass margin lights timber sliding sash windows to rear (north) elevation. Segmental-headed door entrance from street with timber panelled door. Outbuilding to rear with pitched slate roof and roughcast rendered wall forming boundary wall. Set within its own grounds.
One of a pair of houses, which in common with contemporary houses in this prosperous suburb, was orientated to the south to maximize light and views over the River Lee. Though altered by the canted window additions, it retains noteworthy features including camber-headed openings, timber sash windows and timber panelled door. The street entrance, set in a blank wall, is a feature that is repeated along Sunday’s Well Road, allowing for privacy to the streetfront and creating a sense of exclusion from the outside world for the residents within.
