Mugdock Castle is a ruined medieval stronghold in Strathblane where the Graham family held power from the thirteenth century until political wars repeatedly destroyed it. James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose, may have been born there, and the castle was sacked while he was imprisoned before becoming the King’s commander in Scotland. The family recovered the lands, rebuilt the place, and later turned it into a country park, leaving one tower and ghostly walls beside the land they once ruled.

Mugdock Castle was built by the Clan MacLean in the 13th century and later held by the Campbells of Mugdock. It is important as a historic stronghold associated with the strategic control of the Clyde Valley and the broader history of Scottish clan rivalries.
