What is recorded here

Incorporated into a field fence, located on top of a ridge, with extensive views including Nephin Mountain to NW and Croagh Patrick to W. There is a rath (MA090-028001-) c. 40m to N, and a fulacht fia (MA090-128----) c. 200m to NE. An upright limestone block (H c. 2.3m; 1.28m NE–SW; 0.45m NW–SE, at base) which tapers in width towards the top and leans towards the NE. A natural perforation (c. 0.2m x c. 0.35m) pierces the base of the stone. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 16 April 2013

Probably dating to the Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance, possibly linked to the nearby rath and fulacht fia. Its position on a prominent ridge suggests it could have been used for ceremonial purposes or as a marker within a wider landscape of prehistoric activity.
