What is recorded here

An anonymous report (1906, 17) describes, 'set in a fence on the townland of Ballinver, a massive pillar-stone- perhaps a boundary mark or a grave or battle monument'. It is mentioned again in 1908 (Power, 200) as being a stone of 'large size and remarkable appearance'. The precise location of this monument is unknown. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
