This green commemorative plaque records: Wheathampstead Mill Originally owned by Westminster Abbey, this is one of four mills in Wheathampstead Manor listed in the Domesday Book in 1086. A three-bay, timber-framed building remarkable for its length, it dates from the late 1500s. Water ran through the mill powering the mill wheel. Grade II Listed Recorded plaque organisation: Wheathampstead Heritage.
Wheathampstead Mill, originally owned by Westminster Abbey and one of four mills listed in the Domesday Book of 1086, is a historically significant timber-framed structure from the late 1500s that exemplifies medieval agricultural engineering and its continuity into the Tudor period.
