This blue commemorative plaque records: Former Pilot Offices- For 320 years from 1536, Trinity House, Newcastle controlled the Tyne pilotage. Thereafter, pilots were directed by a new Authority on which they were represented. This house was the Pilot Offices from 1886 to 1980. Recorded plaque organisation: Former Tyne and Wear County Council.
The building served as the offices for the Tyne River pilots from 1886 to 1980, representing a crucial administrative center for maritime navigation and safety following the dissolution of Trinity House's control over pilotage in Newcastle.
