Kinver Edge is a prominent sandstone escarpment formed during the Permian period, approximately 270 to 290 million years ago, through the deposition of aeolian (wind-blown) sands in a desert environment. It is notable as a classic example of the Penkridge Sandstone Formation and offers important insights into the geological history of the Midland Valley of England.
